Have you ever heard the expression “A picture is worth a thousand words”? Essentially, it means that no matter how good your written or verbal communication skills are, an image will convey so much more meaning. This month’s pro tip: Submit your compositions with images meaningful to you.
The images you submit with your compositions can help stimulate conversation in class. If you submit something personal or meaningful to you in some way, your teacher will likely ask you to tell them about it. In this way, you will have an easier time answering follow-up questions in class.
Alternatively, you can volunteer information about the picture, using it as visual aid during your lesson. Is there a story behind the picture? Is it a picture of one of your favourite things? Why did you choose to submit this particular picture? Speaking about the image will give you more control of the conversation and may even help you answer multiple questions.
It can also be fun finding images, the part of homework preparation that you look forward to at the end of writing your compositions. You can submit compositions with photos from past vacations. You can submit pictures of weddings or other important events you attended. You can even just submit funny or interesting images you have found online.
If you think it is difficult or troublesome to find an image that is meaningful and relates to the topic, don’t worry about it! You can always use the default image if you don’t have one of your own you want to submit. That said, when you look back over your compositions at a later date, it will be easier to recall at a glance what each was about if the image has meaning to you.
So if you don’t feel like writing a thousand words, remember that a picture is a handy shortcut to communication. We look forward to seeing the images you submit along with your compositions!

「A picture is worth a thousand words 」という言葉を聞いたことがありますか？これは、どんなに文章や言葉でのコミュニケーション能力が高くても、画像一つでより多くの意味を伝えることができる、という意味です。今月のポイントは、自分にとって意味のある画像を添えて作品を投稿することです。
作文と一緒に画像を提出すると、クラスでの会話のきっかけになります。自分にとって何か意味のあるものを提出すると、先生から「そのことについて話をしてください」と言われることがあります。そうすれば、授業中のフォローアップの質問をされたときに、いつもより答えやすくなるでしょう。
あるいは、写真に関する情報をボランティアで提供し、授業中の視覚的な補助として利用することもできます。この写真には何かストーリーがありますか？あなたの好きなものが写っていますか？なぜこの写真を選んだのですか？画像について話すことで、会話の主導権を握ることができ、いくつもの質問に答えることができるかもしれません。
また、作文の宿題が終わった後、最後に楽しみとして画像を探すのも楽しいかもしれません。過去の休暇の写真を使って作文を提出することができます。結婚式などの大切なイベントに参加したときの写真を応募するのもいいでしょう。ネットで見つけた面白い写真でも良いのです。
テーマに関連した意味のある画像を見つけるのが難しいと思っている方も、心配はいりません。自分の画像がなければ、デフォルトの画像を使っても構いません。しかし、自分にとって意味のある画像であれば、後日、作文を見返したときに、どんな内容だったかを一目で思い出すことができます。
たくさん書くことができなくても、絵があればコミュニケーションの近道になることを覚えておいてください。皆さんの作品をお待ちしています。
