How to Improve Your Express Yourself! Experience, Part 8

How often do you look back on your compositions of the past? Every now and again? Never? This month’s pro tip: Review your past compositions every now and again.

One of the benefits of submitting your compositions online before each lesson is that they will be permanently stored on the english-please.express site. Remember that you can view these anytime from any device.

From time to time, we recommend you go back and re-read the compositions you have submitted for previous lessons. The hope is that you will be able to notice any mistakes that you made in past submissions. Not only that you will see or recall that something is incorrect but that you will know why it is incorrect. Noticing these errors is proof that your English has improved since the time that you wrote the composition.

Don’t edit these compositions – leave the mistakes there for you to look over again in the future, as a reminder of how  far you have come. Instead, try rewriting your answers in a notebook, correcting the mistakes as you do so. Better yet, try using the comments section to rewrite your answers. That way, you keep everything together in the one location.

It could also be a bit of fun to re-read what you have said previously, like looking through an old diary. Do you still agree with the opinions you shared at the time? Did you make any predictions about the future? If so, how did they turn out – were you right or laughably wrong? What comments did your teacher or other members of EP staff leave on your composition?

So if you aren’t already going back and reviewing your compositions, you should start now. Every six months or so, have a browse over your past submissions and see what you notice about your writing. Are you saying more with each composition? Are you making fewer mistakes? You might be surprised at what you find!

あなたはどのくらいの頻度で過去の自分の作文を振り返りますか？たまにですか？一度もない？今月のプロアドバイス：過去の作品を時々見直すこと。

毎回のレッスンの前にオンラインで提出することの利点は、english-please.expressのサイトに永久に保存されることです。また、いつでもどのデバイスからでも見ることができます。

時々、前回のレッスンで提出した提出物を読み返してみることをお勧めします。過去に提出した作文の間違いに気づくことができると思います。間違っていることを見たり思い出したりするだけではなく、なぜ間違っているのかを知ることができるのです。間違いに気づくということは、作文を書いたときよりも英語力が向上している証拠です。

作文を修正しないで間違いをそのままにしておけば、将来、自分がどれだけ進歩したかを思い出すために見直すことができます。その代わりに、ノートに答えを書き直し、間違いを修正していきましょう。さらには、コメント欄を使って答えを書き直してみましょう。そうすれば、すべてを一カ所にまとめることができます。

また、昔の日記を見るように、自分の発言を読み返してみるのも面白いかもしれません。当時の自分の意見に今でも同意していますか？将来について何か予言していましたか？もしそうなら、その結果はどうでしたか？正しかったですか？先生や他のEPスタッフは、あなたの作文にどんなコメントを残しましたか？

もし、まだ自分の作文を見直していないのであれば、今すぐにでも見直してみましょう。半年に一度くらいのペースで、過去の投稿作品を見て、自分の文章について気付いたことを確認してください。作文を書くたびに、より多くのことを語っていますか？誤字脱字は少なくなっていませんか？自分でも驚くような発見があるかもしれませんよ。
